It looked like fun to try a sail on the SUP in (really) small waves. So I bought a 6.2 Global wave sail from MauiSails and gave it a try after mounting a bigger wave fin on the SUP Board. Sailing up-wind went relatively well, to my surprise. There is definitely no planning with the Whopper, but with some additional power of the sail it is easy to glide from small waves.

All in all, I had a great time playing around with this set-up and will definitely try some bigger waves somewhere soon.
